Luray is located on Kansas Highway 18 halfway between Paradise (KS), and the Garden of Eden in neighboring Lucas, KS. It is 25 miles north east of the county seat of Russell in Russell County, KS.  Nestled in the Smoky Hills region of the Great Plains on the north side of Wolf Creek, Luray is a prime location for a hunter’s paradise or an outdoor recreationist challenge.

Luray offers approximately 161 housing units of 1-5  bedroom single detached homes. The average price point ranges from $25,000 to $90,000.  With a population of less than 200 people, the housing market in Luray provides plenty of opportunity to find your next home with wide open spaces. The lack of hotels creates a perfect environment to consider purchasing a vacation rental investment property for area hunters and outdoor enthusiasts as a local place to stay during their adventures.

The Luray Pride Committee, volunteer fire department and city provide the organization of community festivals such as the annual Friendship Day event, horseshoe tournaments, parades, etc. Enjoy browsing the Luray Craftique, a premiere Kansas craft show attracting vendors from several states. The Luray Methodist Men’s Fish Fry has become a historical mainstay hosted since 1938 on the third Friday of March. This event is a county favorite featuring fish, trimmings, cherry pie, and several hundred people! Luray also boasts  of a 9 hole golf course that provides a unique sand greens experience and challenge. 

The primary industry in Luray is agriculture, but Luray also offers a bank, convenience-gas and mechanic shop. The community is governed by a mayor-council structure and the City of Luray provides electric service to residents. Gorham Telephone offers telephone, cable, and internet access. Kansas Gas Service provides heating fuel. USD 299 of Lucas-Sylvan and USD 399 Natoma offer public school options for families.
